Welcome to my new website.
Who I am doesn’t really matter. I mean it does, because I’m awesome, but in this case, I’d like to remain slightly anonymous.
I’ve been wanting to get back into writing, but I realized I put a lot of pressure on myself these days to create stuff that is polished and ready for other people to read. You know, the old “content creation hustle.” Gag me with a spoon.
When I was a kid, I’d just write whatever I thought was cool. I have text files upon text files of stuff I wrote just for the fun of it. Stories, character biographies, world building, random musing. Sometimes I’d straight up roleplay with myself.
Was a lot of it really random? Yes. Was it fun? Yup.
And I’m kind of in an era of my life of trying to reconnect with stuff that brings me joy. I’d like to start writing again, but I know if I start writing a story with the intention of publishing it, I’ll get stuck planning and never finish anything.
If I want any sort of consistent writing habit, I need to be doing it for the sheer joy of it, not trying to write a novel right out of the gate. I need a place where I can just throw things out of my head and see what sticks to the wall. (Preferably not my brain, though, that stays inside my head.)
So, I decided to build a whole new website just for that.
I decided to use Astro to build this site, one, because I’m familiar with it from my other website, and two, I can write my posts in markdown, which is pretty close to plain text. I can throw stuff in Notepad like I did as a kid! Who needs spell check? EMBRACE CHAOS!
And I was also curious about this whole Neocities thing. I like that there seems to be a community aspect to it all and I kind of want to explore what this ecosystem has to offer.
So here I am, embracing nostalgia and my whims of the day and building a website. Let’s see where this goes.
